About the role:

Jan De Nul Group is helping to build the future. Pioneering projects that will help shape the future of renewable energy. For example, JDN together with the leading offshore wind developer and major utility, RWE have established a long-term agreement to undertake OWF foundation installation with HLV Les Alizés and JUV Voltaire together with other works, such as cable lay, rock placement etc. over the next five or more years.

 

You will participate on dynamic, internationally benchmarked projects of significant importance for the energy transition. The work location is in Aalst, Belgium.

What you’ll do:

From within our Contract Management team, as Contract Manager you will be integral to the project execution. You perform a multi-faceted role that requires knowledge of FIDIC based construction contracts, legal analysis and risk management combined with strong negotiation skills. In doing so, you will be continuously learning new capabilities and applying your expertise to provide relevant and relatable advice.

 

Your main duties and responsibilities:

  • Contract management and negotiations with suppliers

You negotiate, manage, and enforce contracts with subcontractors and suppliers within the phases of the project. In doing so, you provide advice towards risk mitigation. You achieve this proactively in close cooperation with the Project Manager, taking into account the project objectives in terms of quality, timing and costs.

  • Contract Notices

You master the mechanisms of these contracts and can apply them to the actual situation. You write letters to safeguard our position subject to application of the contract. You draft submissions (including delay and cost impact) in cooperation with external counsel. You have strategic insight into the structure of a submission and know the principles of an arbitration procedure. You establish links with other subjects of the project (planning, financial, tax, insurances, etc.). You identify legal risks which you proactively discuss with the project management and head office.

  • Advice and support

You offer legal advice to internal stakeholders (project and tender teams) and point them towards compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Documentation and compliance

You ensure the careful preservation of contract documentation and correspondence and manage the development of processes for contractual compliance.

This position offers the possibility to future international career opportunities, towards active involvement in the preparation and submission of tenders, setting up joint ventures with partners and subcontractors to potentially involvement in the execution of projects worldwide.

 

What do you need?

You are a master’s in law, Civil or Industrial Engineer, Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Engineer with a good knowledge of civil construction law.

You possess at least 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in contract management, claims management or legal advising. Preferably within the construction, offshore or maritime industry. Experience in commercialand contracting law is essential, with an emphasis on experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts (such as construction, engineering, and subcontracting contracts).

You are fluent in Dutch and have a good knowledge of English and French.
